Documents

Description

DOWTHERM A is a eutectic mixture of two stable organic compounds: biphenyl and diphenyl oxide. Having virtually the same vapor pressures, this mixture can be handled as like a single compound. DOWTHERM A heat transfer fluid may be utilized in systems that employ both liquid phase or vapor phase heating. Dowtherm A has an operating range from 60 °F to 750 °F. Dowtherm A heat transfer fluid has a pressure range from atmospheric to 152.5 psig.

With exceptional thermal stability at 750 °F, Dowtherm A heat transfer fluid’s maximum recommended film temperature is 800 °F. DOWTHERM A may be utilized without steam tracing in installations protected from the weather, as its low viscosity contributes to the minimization of startup problems, so long as one minds the freezing point of 54 °F.

DOWTHERM A heat transfer fluid is the preferred product for a wide range of indirect heat transfer applications for over 60 years as an industry staple. Dowtherm A is stable. Dowtherm A does not decompose readily at high temperatures. Dowtherm A can be used in both liquid or vapor phase systems. Dowtherm A heat transfer fluid's low viscosity across the entire temperature operating range results in efficient heat transfer as well as the minimization of start-up and pumping problems.

This product is intended to be utilized in a closed system, with a nitrogen blanket under positive pressure, and an expansion tank.
